PROGRESSIVE WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION "VICTORIA KENT" is working with the carnival's Chirigota Girls "Las Niñas", with its "Menea, menea o matilde se cabrera"

The carnival in the city of Algeciras has its origins in the late eighteenth century but during the nineteenth century when the party is taking more importance in the city.

In 1937 there is a ban on the party by the dictatorship of General "Franco". The contest begins his new stage groups performing at the "Florida" Theatre, built in 1945.

As we have documented, there never was a group of women in carnival groups contest Algeciras. It is true that there was a female family "chirigota", which he sang on the street but did not present the competition, perhaps by the time they lived, would assume that not easy.

This year 2012, we are fortunate to have in Algeciras, a female "chirigota", now known by many to be the "chirigota" of the girls. They are the first women in Algeciras we will participate in the contest carnival of "Florida" theater groups, and was lucky enough to have anticipated the opening of this theater.

"We're not willing to be of even one step back in equality policies. Now more than ever, we must go for them, and men in this struggle we must have a clear and decisive leadership," said the leader of PSOE. Diaz also criticized the possibility that the central executive last modified the Abortion Act passed. "And you can go back to 1985 on this legislation that affects women," he added.

In this sense also gave Garcia Revilla, who also denied any "setback" that can occur in terms of equality laws. "We can not afford to lose what we got in the last 30 years," she said.
