The Obra Social "La Caixa" brings 17 800 euros to the Association of Progressive Women "Victoria Kent".

The Board of Commissions of the City of Algeciras has welcomed this morning the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Obra Social "La Caixa" and the Association of Progressive Women "Victoria Kent" to promote voluntary social action. The agreement provides a financial contribution of 17,800 Euros from "La Caixa" that will provide for the launching of the "Time Bank" aimed at groups at risk of social exclusion.

The mayor, Tomas Herrera, presided at the signing of the agreement between the two organizations aimed at creating a new space to promote solidarity within society. Specifically, the project "Time Bank" seeks the collaboration of people who want to devote part of their daily free time helping others, giving them also specific training in this regard.

In the case of the Association "Victoria Kent, the main beneficiaries of the program are people who are at risk of exclusion and that will improve their quality of life through this initiative which will become operational this month until September 30 next year 2010.

The first mayor again stressed the important social work being done by La Caixa in the municipality: "We're used to this financial institution is involved in numerous social projects." Tomás Herrera stressed that the signing of such agreement is evident "that the Association Victoria Kent is backed not only the City but also many businesses and institutions".

Maribel Garcia Revilla, presidet of the group of progressive women, reiterated her appreciation to the Obra Social "La Caixa", "for its collaboration with the various associations. Also, I thank the City Council, and has given us a municipal plot for the construction of a building that served thousands of people across the region".

The Area Director of "La Caixa", Francisco Molina, has detailed the entity's investment in social initiatives: "The project is part of the call for the Promotion of Volunteering, which has selected 168 projects submitted to those endowed with two 5 million euros. 40 of these projects are developed in Andalusia. " Molina has announced that his line will continue to support institutional structure of the region, "soon will sign new cooperation agreements with different social actors del Campo de Gibraltar".
